New Bedford, Wareham Pit Bulls Can Be Fixed for Free
Do you own a pit bull? Do you live in New Bedford or Wareham?
MSPCA Cape Cod is currently offering free spaying and neutering for pit bulls that reside in these areas. Special funding from the Massachusetts Animal Coalition will make this possible through February. All you have to do is fill out an application, which you can find HERE.
Your dog must be a pit bull mix and you must live in one of these four communities in order to qualify:
- New Bedford
- Wareham
- Hyannis
- Mashpee
You will also need to explain your financial need as well. For those seeking low-cost pay and neuter resources for a pet that is not a pit bull, you can click HERE to view the information for low-cost programs.
According to the American Kennel Club, “Spaying and neutering is a responsible way to prevent accidental breeding resulting in unwanted puppies.” In addition to preventing unplanned puppies, getting your dog fixed can lead to a reduction of certain health risks and can help with some behavior issues as well, like aggressiveness.
If your puppy is less than five months old, you may want to consider holding off a little while. “The AKC’s Canine Health Foundation sponsored research that indicates there may be long-term health benefits to spaying or neutering dogs after they have passed through puberty.”
