New Bedford Police Detective Shot
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A New Bedford Police detective was shot Monday night in the city's South End.
According to police, the detective sustained an injury from a gunshot Monday at around 8:45 p.m. in the area of the Rivet Street-Orchard Street intersection.
Police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola said the detective is receiving medical treatment and the injury is not considered to be life-threatening.
A law enforcement source told WBSM that the detective was conducting surveillance on a local gang when shots were fired and the detective was struck in the face by a stray bullet. Police did not confirm those details when asked about them.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was also reportedly on the scene, the law enforcement source said.
No information was provided about any potential suspect or arrests.
