New Bedford's Play Arcade Recovering After Flood and Roof Leak

The weather lately across the SouthCoast has been a roller coaster ride. Hot and sunny one day and torrential downpours and powerful winds the next.

Unfortunately, a local business took a tough hit recently that caused roof damage and internal flooding. Play Arcade at the bottom of Union Street in New Bedford is recovering after the roof caved in and began dumping gallons of water inside.

Luckily, there was only minor damage to the arcade games and the neat wall covered in VHS covers is in great condition, but the walls and flooring took a big hit.

Now for the good news.

Play will reopen on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Although part of the problem is fixed, the bar roof still needs some patchwork. Local businesses such as DesRoches Brothers general contracting out of Acushnet and SERVPRO in New Bedford made Play a priority.

"We have been so grateful to everyone who has reached out and helped with the situation," owner Adam Katz said. " We have big events planned like the Friends of Jack Foundation Barbie Party and a lot of work to do, so I'm hustling and doing everything I can to get back open. We miss everyone tremendously and can't wait to see you all again."
