New Bedford High School Teacher Is a Beacon of Light for Students

Miss Kelsey Turner is an English teacher at New Bedford High School. She was nominated by Kailey Sousa, one of her students who feels the impact of Turner’s efforts and enthusiasm each and every day.

“There aren’t enough words to explain the impact Ms. Turner has had on my life in the last three short months. She is truly an amazing teacher who has a passion for teaching all of her students, and an amazing person with a heart of gold. I’ve never been the one to like English, but she makes taking AP Literature fun, exciting, and easy. AP classes are extremely difficult and most teachers usually teach the material and move on whether you understand it or not, but not Ms. Turner. Ms. Turner will help you and explain things to you over and over again for you to understand it and will never give up until you do. She makes me want to become a better person every single day I walk into her bright and colorful classroom. Her positive words and enthusiasm every day help me get through a seven-hour school day. Her simple greetings of ‘good morning,’ every morning gives me the power to start my day on a good note. She builds a relationship with each and every student, and checks on each student frequently to ensure that they are okay, in school and out. To me, she is an example of what the perfect teacher is. Luckily, I was able to meet her during some of the hardest times of my life and she has guided me on the right path allowing me to find my spark again. Thanks to her, I still enjoy going to school every day. I am beyond blessed to have Ms. Turner in my life. Ask anyone in our class, and I bet they could tell you how amazing Ms. Turner is. She’ll forever be one of the most amazing and influential people I’ve ever had the privilege of meeting.”
