NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A stabbing that took place early Sunday morning in New Bedford's Near North End is under investigation.

According to New Bedford Police, patrol units responded at about 1 a.m. on August 4 to a report of a stabbing victim on Deane Street.

Officers learned the incident had actually taken place in the area of the Sid Wainer & Sons parking lot at the corner of Deane Street and Purchase Street.

The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was stabilized and is expected to recover. His identity was not released.

Police said detectives arrived on the scene and are furthering the investigation.

Police are also still investigating a fatal shooting that occurred moments later just five blocks away, in which Aaron Britto, 44, was shot and killed on Earle Street.
