This October, Cove Surf & Turf in New Bedford begins a new chapter. The restaurant, located on Cove Road, will break ground on a big expansion.

Owner Jesse DeSouza turned to Facebook back in May of 2025 to express his love for the establishment and plans to grow.

"When I opened Cove Surf & Turf, I wasn’t just starting a restaurant, I was investing in a dream," he wrote. "A place where family, food, and community come together. A place built not just for today, but for the future."

Expansion Plans Unveiled

DeSouza is looking towards the future by making a big change. His sights are set on an elevated terrace with waterfront views. The construction will include over 80 additional seats, kitchen upgrades, more parking and a handicap-accessible lift.

This month, DeSouza took to Facebook once again to update his customers on the progress.

"Work is scheduled to begin, and this stage is the backbone of the entire expansion," he posted.

A History of Growth

Cove Surf & Turf has made many improvements and additions over the years, including:

  • Expanded outdoor seating to accommodate more guests by the water
  • Elevated menu from fried basics to signature dishes and premium seafood
  • Built a bar and secured a full liquor license to enhance the dine-in experience
  • Begun shipping their most popular menu items across the country

Community Support and Contributions

Customers can even contribute to the construction by making donations online.

"I’ve had confidence in this city and its leadership from day one. And the support from our community and surrounding towns has made everything possible," DeSouza wrote.
