New Bedford’s Candela Cucina Announces Grand Opening Unveiling an Elegant Italian Menu
The long awaited announcement has arrived as Candela Cucina, the latest venture by ServedWell Hospitality, is set to open its doors on January 13.
The restaurant is located at 72 North Water Street in New Bedford's historic Candleworks building.
Candela Cusina occupies the former location of Carmine's at Candleworks, which closed in October 2024 after over four years of operation.
Stephen Silverstein, owner of ServedWell Hospitality – which also operates The Black Whale, Cisco, Joe’s Original and The Sail Loft – has emphasized that Candela Cucina will offer a more authentic Italian dining experience.
The establishment will feature elegant décor, including green velvet accents and a formal atmosphere, with the general manager dressed in a suit.
Chef Joe Melo, formerly of Carmine's, will continue as the head chef at Candela Cucina, ensuring continuity in culinary expertise. All former staff members were offered the opportunity to remain with the new restaurant.
Also, good news for those wondering: existing Carmine's gift cards will be honored.
The restaurant will begin seating at 5 p.m. with a last seating at 9:30 p.m. from Sunday through Thursday, and 5 p.m. from 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The bar, similar to Carmine's, will be on a first-come, first-served basis for anyone looking to simply enjoy a glass or two of wine with a bite to eat on the side.
Reservations can be made through the Candela Cucina website or via OpenTable as they begin to welcome the SouthCoast to an entirely new experience to further enhance the downtown New Bedford area.
