New Bedford Police Arrest Second Man in Blue Meadows Shooting
NEW BEDFORD (WBSM) — A second person has been arrested in connection to the shooting at the Blue Meadows housing complex last month in which an AR-15-style weapon was allegedly used – and the police chief said more arrests are forthcoming.
Meanwhile, the gun used in the shooting remains on the streets, but Police Chief Paul Oliveira said previously that recovering the weapon is a "top priority."
New Bedford Police announced this morning that detectives had arrested Daziere Colton, 20, on October 17 after spotting him at the intersection of Kempton Street and Chancery Street. Detective Alan Kubik was the arresting detective.
Colton is charged with a variety of offenses, police said, including assault by discharge of a firearm, receiving a stolen vehicle and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building.
On September 24, an AR-15-style rifle was reportedly used in the shooting at the housing complex, in which two people were struck by gunfire.
WBSM’s Chris McCarthy confirmed with sources that an AR-15-style rifle was used in the shooting, with more than 30 rounds fired.

The resulting investigation already led to the arrest of Tyrell Pratt, 20, of New Bedford on October 1. Pratt allegedly disposed of a handgun while attempting to flee from police before he was taken into custody and that firearm was recovered.
“We have made this brazen shooting a top priority, and I’m proud to announce that two arrests have been made,” Police Chief Paul Oliveira said. “I’m also confident that there are more arrests on the way.”
Oliveira said on McCarthy’s program on October 8 that recovering the AR-15-style weapon was a “top priority.”

Colton had previously been arrested by New Bedford Police when he was 18 years old, and in which he was charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license.
At the time of that arrest in September 2023, Colton also had two open cases in New Bedford District Court for assault and battery, and assault by means of a dangerous weapon.
