New Bedford Welcomes Birdies Hot Chicken
Finishing touches are being put into a new location for Birdies Hot Chicken in New Bedford. The Coggeshall Street location will be the fourth of a growing chain of fast food restaurants.
Originally launched in Brockton, Birdies Hot Chicken has added locations in Westwood and Downtown Crossing in Boston. While Birdies is steadily growing, Anthony Huynh and his wife Vivian Chow have no desire to run their operation like a franchise.
Huynh said that even though they now have four locations, "we're pretty much still a mom-and-pop business."
"We try to put that hometown touch on everything we do," Huynh said. "We care who works here and that you'll know who our employees are."

The owners are so adamant that they don't want to be a franchise, they've plastered it on the front of their building.
Huynh repeatedly referred to the fact that he and his wife as "super picky eaters."
"We wouldn't sell anything that we wouldn't crave ourselves," he said.

When Will New Bedford's Birdies Hot Chicken Open?
Birdies will be located in the former Honey Dew on Coggeshall Street.
"Realistically, we probably won't be open this week," Huynh said. "I'd say the earliest would be at the end of next week or the week after that."
