See the Map of Downtown New Bedford for Joe Jesus’ ’50s Night
After a two-year sabbatical, the event SouthCoast people have been looking forward to is returning. Although Joe Jesus' '50s Night on July 21 in downtown New Bedford can't promise bouffant or pompadour hairstyles or a Poulos Pharmacy lime rickey at the soda fountain, the family will still have plenty to do.
"Now that we're out of the thick of the pandemic, this year's '50s Night promises to deliver," event organizer Dawn Mahler said.
Because of a local benefactor who donated $10,000 as a gift to revive the confab, this year's get-together promises to be more enhanced.
"We have more street coverage, more car clubs, and more entertainment planned than ever before," Mahler said.
In the newly-updated map, you'll easily find the locations for everything from entertainment and car clubs to snacks – and although we couldn't find food trucks specializing in '50s favorites such as Spam, TV dinners or Jell-O salad molds, there will be cool refreshments for sale.
"I just want to thank everyone that's making this a reality, especially Manny Washburn and Danny Berry of the DPI. This year we added much more to their workload than in previous years. Without the DPI, this wouldn't be happening," coordinator Scott Pemberton said.
"We'll see some of the most beautiful antique cars, thanks to Bob Bramwell, Johnny 'Angel' Remedis, Joe Barclay and all of the car clubs," he said. "We're looking forward to seeing everyone at Joe Jesus' '50s Night."
Mahler reflected on past years.
"This was a long standing event driven by my grandfather, to bring the community together," she said. "It's an honor and privilege, along with the planning committee, to continue this tradition."
