National Night Out is a national campaign for communities to come together with local law enforcement. Held on the first Tuesday of August since 1984, these events offer an opportunity for positive interactions with local police officers and gives members of the community a chance to claim their neighborhoods back from some of the negative influences in the area.

Lieutenant Kevin Kobza of the Fairhaven Police Department is looking forward to the second annual safety event for the town, which doubles as a community block party. "It's over before you know it, the time just flies."

National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 7 from 5 to 8 pm. The Fairhaven Police Department hosts their event on the front lawn of Fairhaven High School, located at 12 Huttleston Avenue.

The press release details some of what the officers have planned for the community. "The event will offer free entertainment such as a K9 demonstration from the Massachusetts Environmental Police, a helicopter landing from the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing (weather provided & barring an emergency), music provided by KJ Tunes, a dunk tank (“Dunk a Cop”), and tours of the Fairhaven High School to name a few."
