Nantucket Community Reunites Family with Missing Boston Terrier

In a heartwarming tale of community spirit and determination, a Nantucket family celebrated a joyous reunion with their 9-year-old Boston Terrier.

Benzo, who suffers from vision problems, went missing, prompting a weeklong search effort that captivated the island.

According to Nantucket Current, the search for Benzo came to a happy conclusion on Saturday morning when a young girl playing in her yard discovered the beloved pet. Benzo was quickly reunited with his family, the Curts from Fairfield, Connecticut, at their property in Tom Nevers, in the southeastern corner of the island. The family, consisting of Jane Curt, Steve Curt, and their two children, Owen, 7, and Ronan, 5, were overjoyed to have their furry friend back.

After a brief trip to Offshore Animal Hospital, Benzo was back in their loving arms.

The search for Benzo garnered massive attention, with hundreds of island residents banding together to scour Tom Nevers and beyond. The effort was bolstered by using thermal drones and hanging up posters.

Jane Curt, a nurse, shared that Benzo's unique name is a nod to her profession. The name "Benzo" is derived from benzodiazepine, a medication used to relieve anxiety, reflecting Benzo's role as an anti-anxiety dog for the family.

A key figure in the search was island resident Beth Morris, who led the community's efforts to locate Benzo. Known for her dedication to finding missing pets, Morris's selflessness and coordination played a crucial role in bringing Benzo back home.

The Curt family expressed their immense gratitude to the Nantucket community for their unwavering support and assistance in the search for Benzo.
