17-year-old Ariel Winter from Modern Family has been emancipated from her mother.

Ariel Winter has confirmed on her Twitter that the custody battle between her and her mother is officially over. She is finally emancipated from her mother who in 2012, had the Department of Children and Family Services called on her for emotionally abusing Ariel. Ariel's full time guardian is now her sister, Shanelle Gray.

Winter paid homage to her sister on Mother's day saying on her Instagram, "Happy Mother's Day to the most amazing mother and sister out there Shanelle Gray! I love you more than words can even describe and I'm so lucky to have you as my sister." She even credits her father in supporting her through the entire custody battle.

Even her own TV family is in full support. Julie Bowen, who plays Claire Dunphy on Modern Family, told People Magazine how proud she is to have watched Ariel grow up on the show.

"I love those kids. Ariel is just wonderful, and she can do anything."
