I have to tell you, I just left Fun 107 and was heading home for the weekend.  I was in the mood for a burger, so I was running through my list of potential spots when I remembered my wife telling me I needed to try Walrus & Captain.

Now, admittedly, I'm late to the party.  Here we are on Labor Day weekend, and Walrus & Captain opened up in the Mattapoisett Ropewalk on Route 6 back around Memorial Day weekend.

The decor is modern, with the ceilings blown out and the ductwork exposed.  The menu is pretty simple.  They focus on bowls (rice bowls), wraps and paninis...with the most popular being the Walrus.  Thankfully, not made from walrus meat, but rather slow braised short ribs.

I tried the bacon and cheddar burger and it was honestly one of the best I've had in quite some time.  It just may be my #1 ranked burger right now on the SouthCoast.  (I'll have to give it another try on another day to make sure of that before I dole out the honor.)

The fries may also be the best fries going right now on the SouthCoast.  When I asked, they told me the fries are hand-cut and go through a process that takes 2 days to make.

The price was right, too.  I feel like the cost of a decent burger has slowly risen over the past few years into that $14-$15 range.  My bacon and cheddar burger was a very reasonable $11...which I happily paid.

I really enjoyed my first visit to Walrus & Captain, and I'd recommend the burgers...big time.
