Great news for Mattapoisett as a new food truck is bringing Mexican food to the area.

Megan St. John, 35, of Fairhaven is kicking off her first culinary journey with a Mexican food truck called What The Taco.

What The Taco opened Feb. 6 in the parking lot of Mahoney's Lumber in Mattapoisett, after months of planning.

"I've been working in restaurants since I was 15," St. John said. "I love Mexican food and I was just thinking of something to do, and since there are no Mexican options in Mattapoisett, I just pulled the trigger."

As of now, St. John plans to open the food truck Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., but this could change depending on traffic flow.

"We're going to try it and might even switch over to winter and summer hours," St. John said. "We're playing it by ear as of right now."

The moment I pulled up to the taco mobile, I was instantly welcomed by the enticing aroma of Mexican cuisine and couldn't help but to pick up a couple to go.

The truck offers al pastor, birria, scallop and sweet potato tacos. It also has taco salads and quesadillas, among other selections. St. John has flour and corn tortillas for a gluten-free shell option. There's most certainly something tasty for everyone.

If all goes well, St. John plans on adding picnic tables and getting a beer and wine license from the town because there's no better combo than an ice-cold cerveza and some loaded taquitos.

I can tell you firsthand that the al pastor taco is hot, juicy and hits the spot on a wintry day. You're welcome, in advance.
