Like nearly everything on store shelves, clothing has seen a serious spike in cost in recent years.

From the rise in material prices to supply chain issues, the price for pants and shirts are at their highest levels in years.

And yet, people in Massachusetts seem to be able to find a way to grow their wardrobe without breaking their budget. In fact, Massachusetts might have some of the best bargain hunters in the entire country.

In a recent study from WalletHub.com state spending on clothing was looked at and compared to each state's median household income. The goal was to see which states spend the most of their monthly budget on clothes - and Massachusetts was at the bottom of that list.

That means shoppers in Massachusetts are less than nearly every other state in the nation when it comes to their clothing.

While you could look at that as meaning Massachusetts residents are some of the least fashionable in the nation, I like to think we're just better at finding bargains than most others.

Sure, growing your wardrobe each season can start to add up, but if you know where the deals are it's not so bad.

With the Wrentham Outlet Mall pretty close by and Matouk and Brahmin Outlets right here on the SouthCoast, savvy shoppers can clearly save big with a little driving around.

Though Nevada ranked as the state state spending the least overall in America, Massachusetts was #48 in the study's findings.

Other New England states showed they can save when it comes to clothes too, Connecticut was #49, Rhode Island landed #46 and New Hampshire was #44 overall.

It was actually Kentucky that spent the most on clothes, using 2.40 percent of their monthly budget on their wardrobe.
