An Open Letter to the Massachusetts RMV About Its Torturous Hold Music
Dear Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles,
Can we be honest with ourselves for a moment? No one likes dealing with the RMV, no matter what the situation.
It's got nothing to do with the people, they're just doing their jobs. It's knowing that regardless of the reason, it will never be a 20-minute process. Whether you schedule an in-person meeting or decide to call, the time spent doing so is never easy.
Just dialing the number gives me anxiety knowing that I'll probably be waiting for an hour, but sometimes you just got to suck it up and get it done.
Now to my main point: the hold music.
I just got done being on hold for an hour and 10 minutes and I now have a splitting headache. Yes, I'm aware that this is a first-world request, but can we please do something about the wait music? Not only is it loud and obnoxious, but it's also borderline torturing my eardrums. I'm not sure if the worst part is the over-modulated loop of classical music or simply the song selection in general.
The hold music when put on speakerphone is the worst distraction. Anytime I try to multitask a project while being on hold, I can never concentrate. This all stems back to my original state of annoyance.
Listen, I'm not asking for much, but is it really that difficult to modify the wait music when people are waiting to connect with an operator or representative? I've been turned off to some pretty lame wait music in my life, but being on the phone with the Massachusetts RMV takes the cake. It's bad enough people are complaining about the wait time, at least upgrade the wait music.
Sincerely,
Gazelle
