The Surprising Christmas Song Voted Massachusetts’ Most Popular
If someone asked you to guess which Christmas song was voted the most popular in all of Massachusetts, I'm betting you would never get it.
The Bay State's pick for best Christmas tune has nothing to do with Mariah Carey, isn't a vintage Christmas classic and wasn't even recorded by an American artist.
Stumped yet?
Well, after a nationwide poll conducted by financebuzz.com, Wham's "Last Christmas" was voted as the favorite holiday song in Massachusetts. Shocking, right?
This one probably wouldn't crack my Top 10. Sure it's catchy and fun and super '80s, but it's not what I would call a "best Christmas song."
Maybe that's because I like the classic Christmas tracks a lot more. Give me Burl Ives' "Holly Jolly Christmas" or Andy Williams belting out "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year" over Wham any day.
Massachusetts was not alone, however. Washington state also picked Wham's Christmas recording as their favorite, too.
Closer to home, however, Rhode Island apparently chose "Santa Baby" as its favorite Christmas song. Kind of a materialistic holiday hit if you ask me, so what does that say about the Ocean State's Christmas expectations?
Not that I was asked to be part of this survey, but my favorite Christmas song of all time is Darlene Love's "Marshmallow World." Honestly, the entire A Christmas Gift For You album from 1963 is a delight and deserves a listen every holiday season.
