Massachusetts Now Has a Map of McDonald’s Ice Cream Machines That Actually Work
An infrastructure engineer has done the heavy lifting for us and has put together the ultimate map for McDonald's ice cream lovers.
We all love a yummy soft-serve from McDonald’s, but the company has gained a reputation for having a less-than-reliable ice cream machine.
Thanks to an engineer with a little time, we can know if it is working before we make the trip.
Only In Boston put Massachusetts on notice about Mcbroken.com, a site dedicated to a map of ice cream machines found at McDonald’s. The locations are labeled as “working”, “broken”, or “inconclusive”, and even breaks down the percentage of machines that are out of order in major cities.
Good news: Only 9.09% are out of order in Boston.

Rashiq Zahid is a Senior Software Engineer at GitHub, a developer platform that allows developers to create, store, manage, and share their code.
Back in 2020, he decided to use his background for the common good.
“I reverse-engineered McDonald’s internal API and I’m currently placing an order worth $18,752 every minute at every McDonald’s in the US to figure out which locations have a broken ice cream machine,” he tweeted.
"A true hero," said one online user.
"MVP," said another.
Zahid used his smarts to benefit us ice cream lovers, and for thank, we thank him.
