Massachusetts School Bus Crashes After Driver Suffers Medical Emergency
MASHPEE (WBSM) — A Mashpee school bus bringing students to school was involved in a crash this morning after the driver appeared to suffer a medical episode.
What Happened in the Mashpee School Bus Crash
According to Mashpee Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Michele Conners, Bus M11 was transporting students to Quashnet Intermediate School and the Kenneth C. Coombs School this morning when it crashed into a tree at Old Barnstable Road and Leather Leaf Lane.
Mashpee Police and the Mashpee Fire Department both responded to the scene, as did Dr. Conners.
Driver’s Medical Emergency Details Remain Unclear
The driver was taken to a local hospital for evaluation. No further information was provided about her condition or what type of medical episode she may have suffered.
One student was also taken to the hospital for evaluation as a precaution, Conners said.

Students Evaluated and Released Safely
None of the other students on the bus, who were evaluated at the scene by emergency personnel, reported any injuries. They were released to family members, or to neighbors with their parents’ permission.

"We are very thankful that no one was seriously injured," Dr. Conners said. "Our thoughts are with the driver, who has been a valued member of our transportation team, as she receives medical care. I want to thank the police officers, firefighters and emergency medical personnel who responded quickly and helped care for our students."
Investigation Underway
The crash remains under investigation, with Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline leading the accident reconstruction. School counselors and support staff are also available for any students who wish to speak with someone about the incident, Conners said.
