"It's The Good Shoppe because we carry everything good," co-owner Elena Hristu said with a chuckle.

She's not wrong. The Good Shoppe, located in Oak Bluffs on Martha's Vineyard, has everything I love: caffeine, cookies and candy. Plus, it's just steps away from the ferry, making it a perfect first stop on your next visit to the vineyard.

A Sweet New Twist on Vineyard Nostalgia

"The concept of the shop was we wanted to bring a sweet, nostalgic, summer Americana/Martha's Vineyard thing together, but then bring in some of these newer things like Swedish candy," co-owner Emily Pires said.

Candy From Around the World

There are at least 80 bins on the floor of different collections from around the world.

"We have a lot of candy, not just from Sweden, but from Spain, from Mexico, from the UK. We carry lots of different collections," Pires said.

Swedish Candy Lives Up to the Hype

I was thrilled to see these offerings. Having heard a lot about how delicious Swedish candies are, I finally had the chance to try some and boy, they lived up to the hype.

From the fruit-flavored gum to the pillow-soft vanilla cubes, I loved every bite. The Swedish sour skulls (particularly the grape flavor) were my favorites.

One candy I wasn't brave enough to try – but am curious to in the future – was the super salty black licorice stars.

Swedish superstar Zara Larsson even said they were one of her favorites.

Not only do I have the excuse to go back to try more, I can also enjoy another cup of The Good Shoppe's coffee.

The Cold Brew That Turns Heads

The cold brew, for example, is top-notch. The shop calls it "the best coffee on the island."

"I feel that confident to say it," Hristu said. "We blindfolded all of our employees, we got coffee from different places and they chose ours every time."

The sweet smells of the coffee and confections – plus freshly-baked cookies and pastries – make this Good Shoppe a great one.
