World Laughter Day is coming up and one event in Marion is ready to make you giggle while getting in some yoga.

In case you weren't aware World Laughter Day is a thing and it's coming up on Saturday, May 4. This year, Marion will celebrate a pretty fun milestone.

If you haven't heard of it or tried it before, laughter yoga has been around for awhile. This year actually marks 30 years since it began.

Doug Savage, who is a certified laughter yoga leader, shared with us why he decided to take this funny path.

"When I was younger I was noted for my unusual laugh. People could tell it was me from my laugh," Savage said. "Moving forward, I believe that the path of laughter that I am on now is a natural progression."

Thinking maybe your current workout habits are boring? You may want to take a chance on laughter yoga.

Think about it, the last time you had a good laugh, your stomach and face were probably sore the next day. Laughing is a workout; I don't care what anyone says. Laughter yoga has been going on around the world for decades now, so clearly it's working for some people.

If you are ready to celebrate World Laugher Day the right way, then you can drop in to the Marion Council on Aging on Saturday, May 4 at 465 Mill Street for a free event starting at 1 p.m. for an hour of laughter yoga. There is ample free parking available.

"It's a day to laugh, engage your inner child with some childlike exercises and yogic breathing, all to promote world peace," Savage said.
