Anyone who does CrossFit or is familiar with the sport understands that the CrossFit Games are a big deal for anyone involved.

On Tuesday, July 27, the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games will open and one SouthCoast athlete will be competing in the Masters Class. Her name is Megan O' Donnell Parks and not only is she skilled in CrossFit, but she's a local athlete right here in Marion who's ready to take on the CrossFit world.

She left for Madison, Wisconsin Saturday morning to compete in the Women's 50-54 division.

"I'm excited, very excited," Parks said. "I've been working a long time for this and now it's here."

For three days, Parks will be competing for the Master's Class, while the Elite Class will kick their tournament off from July 28-August 1.

Parks received the news around mid-May that she was chosen after qualifying for the top 20 out of 5,000 women in her age bracket. Tryouts for the CrossFit games began at the end of April where only 10 percent of the 5,000 would be chosen. Only 20 out of that 10 percent advance to Wisconsin, Parks being one of them.

With only a few days left before competing, Parks had been training over at Seaside CrossFit in West Wareham and at CrossFit Dartmouth. Jason Caldas, owner of CFD, is just one of her trainers that helps keep her flexible and strong through means of skill training.

"I've been doing a little bit of everything, which is what I love most about CrossFit, you just don't know what the workout of the day is going to be, it's constantly changing to target different areas of the body," Parks said. "Just this morning I went paddle-boarding and swimming, did some strength training running, and polished it off with some muscle-ups."

Her family and friends have been her ultimate support throughout her fitness journey.

"Honestly, I'm at the stage where I want to go and just have fun," Parks said. "It's huge to just get there and now that I've done just that, I need to not be stressed and just have fun."

The remainder of the time prior to the games will be devoted to reloading, stretching and massaging in order to maintain the best shape heading into the CrossFit Games. Best of luck, Parks, make the SouthCoast and the town of Marion proud.
