Marion Teen Leads Record-Breaking Food Drive for SouthCoast Families

For the fourth year in a row, 13-year-old Davin Alves of Marion has reminded the SouthCoast what compassion and kindness truly look like.

What began years ago as a simple idea to help families in need has grown into a powerful holiday tradition, and this year, Davin didn’t just meet his goal, he blew past it.

After setting an ambitious goal of $6,000 for his Fourth Annual Holiday Food Drive Raffle, Davin finished the season having raised an incredible $7,030, surpassing last year’s already-impressive total for local families facing food insecurity.

A Record-Breaking Year of Giving

With grocery prices, heating bills, and everyday expenses continuing to burden households, the timing of Davin’s efforts couldn’t have been more meaningful. Every dollar raised through the raffle was used strictly to purchase food for donation, benefiting United Way of Greater New Bedford and Damien’s Place Food Pantry.

The results were jaw-dropping.

According to United Way of Greater New Bedford, Davin’s food drive led to the donation of 4,911 pounds of food, directly supporting neighbors across the community.

“Huge thank you to Davin for hosting his 4th Annual Food Drive Raffle!” the organization shared. “Thanks to his generosity and dedication, an incredible 4,911 pounds of food were donated to support our community. Year after year, Davin continues to show what it means to give back and make a real impact. We’re so grateful for his commitment to helping neighbors in need.”

More Than a Fundraiser

What makes Davin’s story resonate year after year isn’t just the totals on paper. It’s the consistency. At an age when most kids are focused on school, sports, and screens, Davin continues to choose service. He organizes, promotes, and follows through every time.

Looking Ahead

When asked if Davin plans to do it all again next year, his mom Kathylee Alves didn’t hesitate.

“He plans to continue next year for sure,” she said.

If the past four years are any indication, the SouthCoast will once again be ready to show up and support a kid who continues to lead by example.
