Marion Teacher Named Fun 107 Teacher of the Month
The smell of chicken nuggets was in the air as we approached the cafeteria at the Sippican School in Marion. We were flanked by Melanie Howell from First Citizens Federal Credit Union, a major supporter of Fun 107's Teacher of the Month program.
We were looking for Sippican sixth grade teacher Erin Furfey, and she was on lunch duty.
We walked in, grabbed the microphone and asked the sixth graders to point her out to us.

Needless to say, she was stunned and had no idea why we were there.
That's when we read the winning Teacher of the Month submission.

Mrs. Furfey's Nomination
"Erin is an amazing teacher who tries to help every child no matter what their abilities or disabilities are. My child is a student in her 6th grade class. My child is not an easy student. She’s tries many ways of teaching so every child gets the education they deserve. My child came to me and asked if she could nominate her teacher because she makes her happy to be in class. If you know my child you would understand why Erin deserves to be teacher of the month. I’ve sat through many meetings as a parent of a child with learning disabilities. I walked into the best parent teacher conference this year. Why was it the best well instead of a teacher sitting down and telling my everything my child has done wrong she sat there for 20 minutes telling me all the positives of my child! Every child deserves to have that. Erin is my child’s calm during the crazy school day that causes her so much stress. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to tell you about an amazing teacher."
Mrs. Furfey has been making a difference at the Sippican School school for 21 years. The love the students have for her is evident.
Mrs. Furfey won a $200 Visa gift card from Vermette Development VCORP and a 55-inch smart TV for Vermette Enterprises. First Citizens Federal Credit Union also awarded Mrs. Furfey with a $100 gift card.
Congratulations to Mrs. Furfey!
