A Fall River and Westport man will serve three to four years in state prison following his conviction on domestic violence charges.

Gregg Miliote, the Director of Communications for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, says 31-year-old Nathan Moniz pleaded guilty this week in Fall River Superior Court to three counts of assault and battery, two counts of intimidating a witness and one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Moniz threw his girlfriend off the bed and onto the floor on June 20, 2015.

He assaulted her again on October 15, 2015, punching her in the face and destroying her phone when she tried to call police.

The victim tried to flee and was dragged back into the house by her hair.

Her head was also slammed up against a wall multiple times.

Moniz was arrested shortly after the October 15, 2015 assault and ordered held without bail following a dangerousness hearing in Fall River District Court.

Miliote says that while Moniz was in jail awaiting trial he called the victim and tried to convice her to to not testify against him, saying that if he really wanted her dead she would be dead.

Following his release from prison Moniz will also face three years of supervised probation.

He must also stay away from the victim and complete a domestic batterers class.

Miliote says the victim has completed a domestic violence victim awareness class, became employed, is in the process of getting a restraining order against Moniz and is trying to get full custody of their children.
