It was quite a week at the PPAC.  The historic theater shattered its box office records with their one-week run of Mamma Mia!

The week kicked off with a Fun 107 interview with Grant Reynolds, who plays Sky in the wildly popular musical.  Grant told us why he believes this show has stood the test of time.  "Its mix of soulful music and its heartfelt story. Everybody loves ABBA, whether you grew up off of it or not,” he explained. “It’s nostalgic, it’s groovy, it’s soulful. But at the core of that, there’s a real story being told… It’s about family dynamics, it’s a mother and daughter relationship, what family looks like, how you identify with your family.”

Now, we're not suggesting the Fun 107 interview had any correlation to the record breaking numbers, but we're just laying out the facts. Last week, the PPAC's record shattering attendance saw nearly 24,000 people packed in to watch one of the 8 performances. Mamma Mia! at the PPAC grossed over $1.572 million, according to J.L. "Lynn" Singleton, Providence Performing Arts Center president and CEO. That makes it the highest grossing one-week engagement in PPAC history.

The former record was held by the PPAC's 2022 engagement of LES MISÉRABLES, which earned $1.526 million with an attendance of over 21,000 over 8 shows.

Last week's MAMMA MIA!’s gross also exceeds the previous highest-grossing week of MAMMA MIA! at PPAC. This record goes all the way back to the 2002 production, at $1.197 million. PPAC has presented seven engagements of MAMMA MIA! since 2002.

The winner takes it all.
