Mamma Mia! Brings ABBA’s Magic to Providence Performing Arts Center
Tuesday night is opening night for Mamma Mia! and its run at the Providence Performing Arts Center.
The timeless classic runs now through November 17, 2024, as part of its 25th Anniversary Tour. Mamma Mia! has been a fan favorite since opening in 1999 with its mix of ABBA hits paired with a heartwarming story of family, love, and identity.
We got a chance to catch up with Grant Reynolds, who plays Sky in the production.
“Mamma Mia! kind of only existed in my head before I got on tour,” Reynolds admitted, reflecting on his first experience with the stage production. This is his national tour debut with the show. “I had seen the movie, and of course, I had heard the iconic music from ABBA, but I had never done a stage production of it before.”

As Sky, Sophie’s fiancé, Reynolds enjoys performing ABBA’s unforgettable songs and being part of a musical that brings people together. He credits the show’s lasting popularity to its mix of soulful music and heartfelt story. “Everybody loves ABBA, whether you grew up off of it or not,” he explained. “It’s nostalgic, it’s groovy, it’s soulful. But at the core of that, there’s a real story being told… It’s about family dynamics, it’s a mother and daughter relationship, what family looks like, how you identify with your family.”
The show’s interactive nature is something the cast fully embraces. “Listen, I’m telling you, it has that effect, and we absolutely welcome that,” Reynolds said, encouraging the audience to participate. “Anybody who’s coming up to the PPAC, you guys get up, dance with us, do whatever you need to do to have a good time. We’re totally that type of show.”
With Mamma Mia! at PPAC from November 12th through the 17th, Reynolds advises fans to get their tickets quickly. “We are selling out city by city,” he shared, reflecting on the tour’s success. For those looking to escape and enjoy a night of joy, Mamma Mia! promises an unforgettable experience.
