An elderly man from Pennsylvania was rescued after getting lost in the Freetown State Forest Friday morning, according to a press release from the Fall River Police Department.

The 77-year-old male, identified as Mr. Johnson, made a call to 911 after his Chrysler van slid on ice and was disabled. He did not know where he was, what state he was in, or how long he was there.

The 911 location was off the dispatcher's map and not near any roads, but did appear to be near the Copicut Pond.

The FRPD communications staff was not able to communicate via radio with officers on scene due to their location in the woods, but they improvised with communications through text messaging.

Fall River Environmental Police Officer Wedson Tiburtino was able to locate Mr. Johnson after nearly two and a half hours of searching on the shoulder of Quanapaug Road on a hill completely covered in an inch of ice.

Officer Tiburtino stabilized Mr. Johnson while Dartmouth District 3 Fire, Dartmouth Police Department and STAT Ambulance arrived to provide additional assistance. The victim was safely removed and transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital.

According to the release, it was learned through the victim's wife that he suffered from dementia and other minor medical issues. He apparently also left Philadelphia, PA at approximately 9:00AM Thursday morning and had not been seen since.
