In a heartwarming ceremony this morning, Dartmouth Police Department Officers Max Szteliga and Dominik Sullivan-Souza were awarded the prestigious Life Saving Award. This accolade recognizes their exceptional actions on June 3, 2024, which resulted in saving a man's life.

The incident unfolded during a routine patrol when the officers received an urgent call about an unresponsive individual in a vehicle parked on the side of the road. The 911 call was made by a vigilant citizen who had come across the vehicle, promptly putting it in park and seeking emergency assistance.

Upon their swift arrival at the scene, Officers Szteliga and Sullivan-Souza found the male victim unresponsive, without a pulse, and not breathing. Acting without hesitation, they immediately pulled the man out of the vehicle and commenced CPR. Their quick-thinking and adept execution of life-saving techniques were crucial. Soon after, the officers employed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to administer a shock, a decisive action that resulted in the victim regaining both a pulse and consciousness.
