Look Inside This Historic New Bedford Mansion For Sale

NEW BEDFORD — A historic New Bedford mansion that was once owned by the city's first mayor is now for sale — and it's been converted to offices.

The William Rotch Rodman mansion on 388 County St. was designed by famous Rhode Island architect Russell Warren and built in 1833.

According to datma.org, the granite mansion was designed in the Greek Revival style for bank president and whaling merchant William Rodman, and was considered as one of the most stately (and one of the most expensive!) homes of its time.

New Bedford's first mayor Abraham Howland bought the home after Rodman died in 1855.

At one point it was also owned by the Grinnell family, whose mansion sits across County Street.

The building still has its historic Corinthian columns, Georgian plasterwork, an organ loft, a mosaic floor in the entryway, and a solarium.

Following its rehabilitation into office condos, it now also features a four-level elevator, updated electric, central gas heat, air conditioning, and sprinkler.

Only four of the five condos in the building are currently for sale, a total of 8,031 square feet for $999,000.
