Local Polar Plunges Postponed Due To Extreme Cold
The extreme cold streak has led to the postponement of several local Polar Plunge events.
If you were thinking of jumping into the frigid local waters on New Years Day for a good cause, you'll have to wait a bit longer.
The Fort Phoenix Polar Plunge scheduled for New Years Day has been postponed to a future, warmer date.
According to the event's Facebook page, the continued bitter cold is the reason for the rescheduling. Out of concern for plungers as well as the volunteers at the event things are being moved to a warmer date.
That date has not yet been revealed, but they ask that those planning to plunge check back in on their Facebook page and with the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to learn more.
Though this Fairhaven plunge is free to do, the event raises money for Fairhaven Dollars for Scholars with the sale of their t-shirts.
Those shirts will still be sold at Days Health & Sports on Saturday December 20th from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. and donations will be accepted at that time as well.
The Forever Paws Animal Shelter Polar Plunge has also been postponed due to the cold.
They posted the announcement to their Facebook page and ask potential plungers to check back there for information on the event's new date and time.
All plungers for Forever Paws are asked to raise donations for the animal shelter before they plunge, giving those collecting funds more time to do so.
