Lane Closures Underway on I-195 in Somerset
Late night and early morning driving through Somerset could be rough for the next few months.
MassDOT has begun roadwork on I-195 eastbound and westbound and wants drivers to be aware that lanes will be closed down, sometimes to just one lane in both directions, late nights and overnights through October.
Closures are already underway and will be ongoing Sundays through Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. each week through October. On Fridays and Saturdays the closures will run from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.
If you do any traveling in that area make sure to give yourself plenty of extra time, since the number of lanes open each night could vary as the roadwork is completed.
MassDOT says the closures are necessary in order to clean and paint underneath the Wilbur Ave/Route 103 Bridge over I-195. The lane closures will allow the large pieces of equipment to work.
The work is scheduled to start on the westbound side and then move to the eastbound lanes, so presumably the lane closures will occur the same way.
So I-195 travelers should be aware that late night driving could be much slower going than expected.
