There was a carjacking at about 6pm last night in New Bedford. A 36 year old woman was leaving a business near the intersection of Kempton and County Streets when she saw a man near her car. He said, "Do you recognize me?" then jumped in her car and told her to drive. The woman believes she might have gone to high school with the suspect, who forced her to drive a few blocks before telling her to pull over and hand over her purse. She jumped out of the car and flagged down help from someone walking by. The suspect fled the scene in her car with her pocketbook and cell phone.

Police tracked down the car 20 minutes later on Mill Street. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male in his 30’s, 5 foot 9, 170 lbs.
