Dartmouth Resident Jenny Slate in Movie With Most Oscar Noms

Jenny Slate might be the most talked-about Dartmouth resident after the Academy Awards nominations came out Tuesday morning.

The actress, comedian and author has a colorful role in the most-nominated film of the year, the ensemble-driven sci-fi success Everything Everywhere All at Once.

That's not all.

Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, which she co-wrote and stars in, is nominated for Best Animated Feature.

The Milton native, also known for her work on Parks and Recreation and Saturday Night Live, plays a badass in the hard-to-describe Everything Everywhere All at Once. Here she is at work in the laundromat that is the focus of the story:

Looks like she kicked butt in that scene.

Slate lives half the year in Los Angeles and the other half in Dartmouth with her husband, Davoll's General Store owner Ben Shattuck, and daughter Ida. Last fall, Slate appeared at Zeiterion Performing Arts Center in New Bedford for a screening of Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, based on a popular internet character she created in the early 2000s.

Slate reacted to the Marcel nomination in a Tuesday afternoon Instagram post:

I’m crying a lot but today is certainly one of the most marvelous moments of my little life," she wrote. "Thank you so very much to our cast and crew and to the @theacademy for nodding their smiling gaze our way.

Everything Everywhere All at Once is nominated for 11 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Michelle Yeoh.

I hope Slate will be at the awards show on the West Coast on March 12, but if not can we please make sure we get an invite to her watch party? Think of the epic catering.
