January 2020 SouthCoast Teacher of the Month Winner [VIDEO]

Congratulations to Fun 107's SouthCoast Teacher of the Month for January 2020. Thank you to our sponsor, ProGroup Contracting, for helping to make this school classroom even better.

Mrs. Carvalho is a fourth-grade teacher at Frank M. Silvia School in Fall River who received an amazing nomination for the SouthCoast Teacher of the Month Contest in January. Needless to say, our sponsor ProGroup Contracting was seriously impressed after reading about all the wonderful work she's done. She was the obvious choice for this month's award, which contained many supplies for her class to enjoy, as well as an Electronic Dream Basket. It was filled with several devices to make her beloved classroom even better for her students.

One of her peers submitted this nomination letter about Mrs. Carvalho to Fun 107:

“The first time I met Mrs. Carvalho and saw her interact with students, I set a goal for myself: One day I will be an enthusiastic and impactful teacher like her. Mrs. Carvalho is a leader and trophy teacher in our building. She engages her class to help them love learning, supports our newest teachers to gain confidence and expertise, and motivates her coworkers to elevate their practice. Each of her roles help make our school a better place to be. Mrs. Carvalho is a go-to friend for her coworkers and students. She brings snacks from home in to share with her less fortunate students, sets individual goals and creates plans to help students succeed, and is always working to challenge even her brightest stars. The greatest compliment I’ve ever received in school came one day when a student shouted, “This is something Mrs. Carvalho would do!! You remind me of her!!” I knew having her as a mentor guided me in the right direction. Mrs. Carvalho deserves to be Teacher of the Year, but recognizing her for a month is a great place to start!” - Lindsey Brooke
