Huge Padanaram Village Property Hits Market for First Time in 50 Years

It has been owned by the same family since the 1960s, and now a massive piece of waterfront property in the heart of Dartmouth's Padanaram Village is on the market and looking for a developer to buy.

Anne Whiting Real Estate lists the 292 Elm Street commercial and residential property at $2,799,999, so whoever buys this is probably going to have big money-making plans for it – and you have to wonder what residents will think of the change.

Since the 1960s, this 0.380-acre property has held homes and businesses and it's safe to assume the new owners wouldn't keep them there. Currently there are four buildings holding seven apartments and two commercial businesses at the site, including Village Hair Designers.

Yet the real estate listing says all tenants are "at will" and the property is being sold "as is." The listing also really stresses the fact that this "property is perfect for a developer who has a business vision," so I think the goal is to revamp the entire piece of property.

I am sure it is a little sad for folks who have grown up with these buildings all their lives and the people living in some of adorable waterfront cottages. Does the village really need a fancy new apartment building instead of places like this?

Still, this is Padanaram Village, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It has been around since the mid-1600s and is home to yacht clubs and art galleries. I can't imagine anything too crazy is going to pop up in this waterfront space when the property is eventually sold.
