Some of the beautiful beaches in Portugal have been empty for the past several days. Why? It's simply just too hot for many people to even go to the beach.

There is a record-setting heatwave in Europe that has hit Portugal and neighboring Spain especially hard. According to bbcnews.com, nearly half of the country was reporting record temperatures of 115 degrees (Fahrenheit) over the weekend.

Due to the extreme heat and the recent lack of rain, there are also wild fires in southern Portugal's Algarve region. The government has been sending out text alerts regarding the risk of fires.

Some other areas of Europe are reporting temperatures that are the highest in over 250 years. According to UKweather, the heatwave could last until October.

If you have a trip to Portugal planned within the next several weeks, plan accordingly. You could experience heat like you never have before.
