High on the list of summer foods is the hot dog, but a new trend has many putting something other than a hot dog on their hot dog bun.

In just a few weeks, we will celebrate the unofficial start to summer with a long three-day weekend packed with sunscreen and hopefully grilling up lots of hamburgers and hot dogs.

Is there a new "dog" in town, though?

I have been seeing this viral image of a hot dog bun with a banana and peanut butter and jelly on it. Maybe you have seen it too.

Don't get me wrong, even as an adult I get down with a good old PB&J sandwich.

There is no lack of hot dog drama in our area over the past year, either and the drop in hot dog sales may lend itself to this "healthier option."

Let's think about this, though; instead of cutting up a banana to lay flat with your sandwich you don't need to with a hot dog bun. My mind was blown when thinking of the possibilities.

I'm no "hot dog" sales professional but I don't think having something like this on the menu would hurt our local hot dog spots, would it? Am I late to the game you've already seen at your favorite spot?
