This season, Fun 107 teamed up with the United Way of Greater New Bedford to help bring a bit of light to Southcoast families who've had a trying year this year.

The good folks over at the Schwartz Center for Children nominated one of their clients for the United Way's Holiday Wish campaign, knowing that any bit of help would make a world of difference to this family of four.

... is a single mom with three children, the youngest of which is 6 years-old with severe and profound special needs.  It has been a very challenging year for the whole family- including her two teen children who also help with their brother's care. The hardworking mom is deeply committed to her children't care, but finds it hard to hold a job because of the multiple appointments for her youngest child's physical, occupational and speech therapy services 3-4 times/week at Schwartz, plus doctor's appointments. She never misses an appointment at Schwartz. The family is at risk of being evicted because they don't have enough money to pay the rent.

Along with multiple doctor's appointments, as any busy parent knows, comes a lot of traveling back and forth to multiple locations. Upon hearing that the family's car was in dire need of repairs to keep up with the traveling,  Newport Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram owner Robert offered to make the repairs to the family's vehicle and lessen the burden for this hard working mom. Games to Gold jumped in to donate a brand new iPad Air to replace Aiden's stolen iPad, too, a crucial tool in helping him develop his language skills.

The most urgent need for this family is assistance with their rent to keep them from being evicted but if you'd like to help the family with any additional needs, Melissa has 3 children; a 6 year old son, a 16 year old son (interested in clothes) and a 19 year old daughter (interested in clothes and basic needs.)   The family could also benefit from basic household needs.

Drop-offs are being accepted at the Fun107 Studios at 22 Sconticut Neck Road, Fairhaven, MA.  Checks can be made out to the United Way of Greater New Bedford with "Schwartz Center" in the memo.
