If you see green LED lights everyone this month, there’s a special reason for it.

Fall River schools, as well as Government Center, Saint Anne's Hospital and the Boys & Girls Club are participating in Mental Health Awareness Month.

Protecting youth mental health, and creating non-judgmental, empathetic, caring, and supportive school cultures should be a top priority nowadays.

Mental health is important, so here are some ways to help raise awareness:

  • Make green ribbons and pass them out.
  • Light up your workspace green.
  • Decorate a green balloon with positive messages.
  • Write positive messages on a green sticky note or in green ink and pass them out.
  • Change your screen for Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any other social media account.
  • Use social media to post pictures and share why you are wearing green.
  • Put a green light bulb on your front porch or a green Christmas candle in your window.

Even if you feel mentally healthy, you can still show support for your family, friends and community members who need a helping hand. It's a reminder that nobody should be left out.

There's not a single person who couldn't use a lift every now and then, so focus on the positives and help raise awareness by going green.

Fun fact: Fall River native Joe Raposo, a legendary composer for Sesame Street and other shows, wrote Kermit the Frog's signature song "Bein' Green."
