Help Portuguese Heritage Thrive in Our Community

Discovery Language Academy is a non-profit organization located in New Bedford with a 90-year history of teaching children to speak, read and write Portuguese. They offer classes five days a week, from beginners to advanced levels, for elementary through high school aged students.

The school is hosting two separate fundraisers to continue its mission of developing this beautiful language within our community.

First, enter to win a Ford Focus, donated by First Ford, J&J Materials and DeMello International Center.

Raffle tickets are $50 each and the winner’s name will be drawn at the end of this year’s Viva Portugal event on May 4. The second prize is a trip to Portugal donated by Azores Airlines.

Tickets are available at the school, DeMello International Center, Hair In Motion Full-Service Spa, Duckie's Cafe, Horacio's, ITS U Hair Salon, Diane Lopes Tax Services, Inner Bay Cafe and Grill, Hair In Motion Cosmetology Hair Academy, Columbia Jewelers and Barcelos Bakery in Fall River.

Then, attend the "Cocktails Under the Stars" fundraising event which will be held on Friday, May 31 from 6 to 10 pm at the Whaling Museum Harbor View Gallery. 18 Johnny Cake Hill in New Bedford.

Tickets are $40 and all proceeds will be donated to Discovery Language Academy's (Portuguese School) expansion and development of the Portuguese language and culture. Participate in the silent auction raffle while enjoying live entertainment by Jon Silva and appetizers in cocktail party attire.
