Gleason Family YMCA Looking for 225 Turkey Donations This Thanksgiving

For the past two years, the Gleason Family YMCA in Wareham has served up 225 turkey dinner supply kits to families in the community leading up to Thanksgiving, thanks to a generous community sponsor.

This year, however, the company who led the charge in supporting this effort will no longer be involved, leaving a waiting list of families who are not guaranteed food for the holiday. YMCA has all of the fixin's figured out; the turkeys are the only missing ingredient.

It is a real community effort with Sharing the Harvest Community Farm (In Dartmouth) donating some fresh produce, area organizations donating the various components and then a big group of volunteers pack the boxes and manage pick-up by area families. - Kate Levin, YMCA

The hard cost is roughly $25 per turkey dinner, and so far they've raised $1,000 towards their $5,000 goal. The staff at the Gleason Family YMCA is hoping that the community will come together to help raise the other $4,000 in time.
