Gaming Commission to Discuss Region C Casino
The Massachusetts Gaming Commission will begin discussions next month on whether to formally re-launch the bidding process for a resort casino in Southeastern Massachusetts, otherwise known as Region C.
The Commission's executive director, Edward Bedrosian, gave members a packet of responses from people in the gaming world and Southeastern Mass. residents, who recently were asked to weigh in on a variety of issues surrounding a possible third full-scale casino in the state.
At a meeting Thursday in Springfield, Bedrosian said he was asking members to review those comments and come back in January ready to discuss what a process for re-evaluating a Southeastern Mass. casino would look like.
Two years ago the Commission denied a bid to build a casino at the Brockton Fairgrounds.
Since that time, a resort casino has opened in Downtown Springfield, and a slots parlor continues to operate in Plainville. A resort casino is also under construction in Everett, and Rhode Island-based Twin River has opened a casino and hotel in Tiverton.
