For most of my life, my name has always been one of the most common.  Year after year the list of the most popular baby names would come out, and Michael would always be at the top of the list.  All of you ladies named Jennifer and Lisa, you were right there with me, am I right?

I think I kind of liked the idea of having the most popular name, not really realizing the drawbacks.  Take-out orders can get confusing when there are too many Michaels in your town.  And, I have to say, I am not a fan of having other Michaels at work (sorry Michael Nelson).

Finally, the name Michael is really starting to pay off.  We Michaels are one of a kind, and we're finally getting our due.

Free Subs For Anyone Named Mike

Firehouse Subs has come up with a great promotion to honor the best name in the history of America.  If your name is Mike or anything close to it, you are in luck.

On Wednesday, May 6, anyone named Mike, Michael, Mikey, Miguel, Michelle, Michele, or Michaela can walk into a participating Firehouse Subs location and receive a free medium Steak and Cheese Melt. You don't have to buy anything! All you have to do is show a valid ID that proves your name qualifies.

The nearest Firehouse Subs locations are in Cranston and North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

A New Sandwich Worth Trying

The giveaway is designed to introduce Firehouse Subs’ newest menu item, the Steak and Cheese Melt. The sandwich is made with real prime rib, flame seared and topped with melted provolone, caramelized onions, and peppers, all served on the Firehouse's signature roll.

Firehouse Subs President Mike Hancock says the company believes the sandwich can compete with the best steak subs out there.

“We’re proud of this sub,” Hancock said. “Once people try it, we think it earns its place among the best.”

Why The Mike Connection

Because Mike's are, well, Mike's, it goes without saying that the President of the company decided to name the giveaway after himself.  Or, maybe it is a jab at Jersey's Mike's?  Did they want to beat the sub giant to the Mike punch?

Giving Back While You Eat

While the sub is free for those with the right name, Firehouse Subs also continues its mission of giving back. A portion of every purchase supports the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, which has donated more than $107 million to first responders across North America.  All kidding aside, a great promotion to get people talking about Firehouse Subs!
