From historical treasures to sandy shores, the SouthCoast has a LOT to experience during the summertime. Sometimes, though, we need to get away from the crowds of tourists and beachgoers to appreciate all that nature has to offer.

Borderland State Park stretches across north Easton and Sharon, and provides the perfect, peaceful escape that we all need.

With over 20 miles of trails to hike and bike, fishing and canoeing/kayaking, disc golf, and exploring the historic Ames Mansion–just to name a few activities–there's something that will please everyone in the family.

The beauty of Borderland State Park itself is enough to warrant a visit. Here are five unique and breathtaking spots we found:

1. The Lodge

The Lodge is close to the park's entrance and easy to find. A venture inside will bring some relief from the warm weather, as it's made of stone, and also some great portrait opportunities near the windows. The Lodge overlooks Leach Pond and is a great spot to relax.

2. Ames Mansion

While tours of the Ames Mansion are only offered on certain dates, there are plenty of exterior details to admire. Tiny details like this bring out its character and can be found all around the estate.

3. Cascading streams

Under the bridge along Pond Edge Trail flows a calming stream that feeds from Leach Pond into Poquanticut Brook. Let your legs dangle over the water as you sit on the bridge or go to the water's edge to dip your feet into the shallow stream.

4. Ames Mansion grounds

The Ames Mansion dates back to 1912, but nestled amongst a grove of trees on its grounds can be found this modern and creative site. While the messages are interesting to read, please remember that carving into trees harms them!

5. The trails

Whether you decide to hike or bike the trails, don't forget to stop a few times and look up. The trees towering above are not only beautiful, but are a reminder of our relation to the rest of the world.

But, of course, the beauty of Borderland State Park is best appreciated in-person and not through a screen. There are so many more unique, picturesque places that we can't wait for YOU to find within Borderland State Park!

You can find Borderland State Park at 259 Massapoag Ave., North Easton, MA 02356. For more information, visit their website.
