Firearm Recovered During New Bedford Traffic Stop
NEW BEDFORD - A city teenager is in custody after New Bedford police officers recovered an illegal firearm following a traffic stop Saturday afternoon.
Detectives from the police department's Gang Unit recovered a loaded .25 cal Raven Arms firearm at approximately 2:00 p.m. after an investigation led to the vehicle stop in the area of Blackmer St. and Acushnet Ave., according public information officer Lt. Amos Melo.
As a result, Rayshond Lewis, 19, of 60 South Second St., was arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a firearm, unlawful carrying of a firearm 2nd offense, carrying a loaded firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Lewis has a prior gun conviction from March 2014.
Lewis is scheduled to be arraigned Monday at 3rd District Court.
