It was the final day for the Alden Road Tropical Smoothie Cafe, so I did what any loyal customer would do and took one last stroll.

Although the parking lot was tiny and the drive-thru filtered out one way, the convenience kept me coming back for more. The radio station is right around the corner and I've become accustomed to the short drive or even a brief walk over to visit our neighbor.

As of August 24th, 2023, the Alden Road location is no more.

The local smoothie chain was forced to move to make way for a Starbucks. The coffee shop will take over two property fronts- the former Dunkin' and my favorite Tropical Smoothie. It's bittersweet, to say the least, but there is a happy ending after all.

Karyn Ferreira, the owner of the Fairhaven and Kings Highway (New Bedford) locations, was sad to leave the property she's been leasing since February 2013. However, she had a backup plan and is only moving down the street in the CVS parking lot. Only minutes away from Alden Road.

As I sat in a now-empty dining room, I reminisced about the good times and the numerous broadcasts Fun 107 has done with Tropical Smoothie and Camp Sunshine. My Detox Island Green smoothie inched closer to the bottom of the styrofoam cup and for a second, I felt a glimpse of sadness. I know it's not goodbye, but rather an end of an era at the Alden Road location.

Ferreira plans to reopen the Route 6 storefront sometime in November. In the meantime, I'll have to get my buffalo chicken wrap fix over at her Kings Highway location.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, so I'll have to wait patiently.

Big Time Rush Visits Fairhaven 2011

Big Time Rush made a rather infamous appearance at Monster Mini Golf in Fairhaven back in 2011. We knew they were popular, but had no idea they were this popular. Fans swarmed the event, and we mean swarmed, but the guys of Big Time Rush were great sports and patiently posed for photos with as many fans as possible.
