Fall River to Open Emergency Cooling Center Through Friday
FALL RIVER — Fall River's Government Center will be open to the public from Aug. 12-13 as an emergency cooling center during this week's expected heatwave.
Mayor Paul Coogan announced the emergency measure Wednesday in order to combat extreme heat expected in the next few days.
The cooling center will be open at Government Center, also known as City Hall, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 and from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13.
The cooling center can be accessed through the building's Third Street entrance.
Unvaccinated residents will be required to wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing requirements.
Residents are also reminded to check in on family, friends and neighbors and to drink plenty of water due to high temperatures.
