Curt Scherny is a retired Somerset firefighter currently working full-time as a paramedic with Southcoast EMS in Fall River. He is one of the SouthCoast's frontline heroes.

Scherny was nominated by Christopher Hastings, who knows just how much Scherny has risked in order to care for the SouthCoast community.

“Throughout the pandemic, he has risked his health and safety caring for patients who have tested positive with COVID-19,” Hastings said. “These are the folks that require transport to Boston hospitals by ambulance. He has spent hours in the back of an ambulance with contagious patients all year.”

Scherny was a dedicated first responder long before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, but the SouthCoast is lucky to have someone like him taking care of those in need within our community during this difficult time.

“He has worked long hours and overtime shifts to fill open slots and never complained,” Hastings said.

Hastings nominated his favorite essential worker to be recognized in the Spotlight SouthCoast Frontline Heroes program because “his patient care and bedside manner are second to none.”

Thank you, Curt, for all you do day in and day out.
